The availability of tracking apps on mobile devices has given us the ability to measure activities in a way that has never been able to be done outside of a controlled study environment.
You can track food intake, exercise, finance, weight loss, reading activities, babies nappies/sleeping/crying/feeding, travel, emotions and all manner of other things.
I loathe baby tracking apps. I think they get in the way of the mother responding to her babies cues. I actually sent my watch home from hospital with number two so that when the staff asked what time I last fed I could honestly say “I have no idea”(sorry dedicated medical staff I think I was a bit of a pain).
Some apps remind us that activity needs to happen. I sometimes feel like Jiminy Cricket is living in my phone telling me I need to take a walk or record what I have eaten.
